I’m not saying that wikis are generally spamming destination. However, I am convinced that wikis are great potential of being tool for spammers. Internet marketing is getting tougher and everyone in the niche is busy exploring ways that would help them beat the internet marketing competition, specifically SEO.
Wikis are websites that enable the users or visitors (who have signed up to these sites) to create, modify and organize the content of a web page collaboratively. Sites of this kind are a great way of getting information from knowledgeable people from different countries around the world. Ideas are freely presented and edited without close censorship. Wikipedia for instance; it is the most successful wiki site in terms of creation, management and maintenance.
Since wikis do not have close censorship, any user from around the world who has access to World Wide Web has the privilege to add or delete specific contents of a web page. However, because of this nature, spammers find it a great hub to for their goals. Spamming technique that is performed most often is creating and dropping links anywhere, any sites such as link farms, blog sites, and many more. Since wikis allow putting links in the resources area of the page, spammers can have all their links in them. Like a link farm, wiki’s links are free for all. With wikis, higher page rank for your site is easily achieved.
